1. Who we are
Broadband (UK) Limited (“BroadbandProviders”, “we”, “us”) operates www.broadbandproviders.co.uk. We are registered in England and Wales (No 06196255) and our registered office is 31 Berkeley Tower, 48 Westferry Circus, London E14 8RP. You can reach our privacy team at hello@broadbanduk.com.
2. What personal data we collect
When you use our site we may collect:
Location details – your postcode and UPRN (and, if you choose, your full address) so we can show the broadband deals available at your property.
Contact details – your email address when you create an account, request reminders or sign up for newsletters; and your phone number if you call our helpline (the line is answered for us by Currys Retail Ltd).
Quiz and tool inputs – answers you give in our end-of-contract quiz and the email or provider details you supply in that tool.
Competition or review information – for example a review nickname or prize-draw entry.
Technical data – IP address, device type, browser version, screen resolution, user-agent string, pages viewed, time spent, click and scroll behaviour, and coolkie or pixel identifiers.
Session recordings – Microsoft Clarity records mouse movements, taps, clicks and full session replays to help us understand how the site is used.
Speed-test metrics – ping, download and upload speeds and a truncated version of your IP address when you run a test embedded from broadbandspeedtest.org.uk.
3. How and why we use your data
We use this information to:
Present accurate broadband availability results and quotes;
Create and administer your BroadbandProviders account;
Send contract-expiry reminders, newsletters or special-offer emails and texts only if you have opted in;
Improve, debug and secure our website through aggregated analytics and fraud-prevention;
Run competitions, publish user reviews and distribute rewards; and
Attribute any orders you place, using affiliate cookies set by Decision Tech, so we are paid by the broadband provider you choose.
4. Our legal bases
Contract – processing your postcode to provide comparison results and using your contact details to supply a service you request.
Consent – sending you marketing messages, entering you into competitions or recording your end-of-contract preferences. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Legitimate interests – running analytics, preventing fraud, producing usage statistics, and operating our speed-test and affiliate-tracking infrastructure. We always balance these interests against your rights and expectations.
5. Who we share your data with
We only share personal data with:
Broadband suppliers you choose and Decision Tech Ltd, which provides our affiliate-tracking cookies and verifies sales.
Currys Retail Ltd, which answers our broadband-advice phone line.
Specialist service providers acting on our instructions, including Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery and bot protection), Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Google Maps API, Microsoft Clarity, Storyblok (headless CMS), Mailchimp (email delivery) and our internal Deal-Tracking API.
BroadbandSpeedTest.org.uk, which receives your test metrics in order to calculate and display results.
Regulators, courts or law-enforcement agencies when we are legally required to do so.
All third parties are bound by contract to keep your data secure and to use it only for the stated purpose.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and pixels to make our site work, understand how it is used and, where you agree, to tailor advertising. A consent banner appears the first time you visit and lets you change your choices at any time.
First-party cookies
bbuk – stores your most recent speed-test result (1 month).
quiz-{QuestionID} – remembers your end-of-contract quiz answers (365 days).
postcode – caches your postcode (session / persistent).
_clck – Microsoft Clarity user ID (1 year).
_clsk – Microsoft Clarity session ID (1 day).
Third-party cookies
_ga – Google Analytics user ID (2 years).
_gid – Google Analytics session ID (24 hours).
Affiliate cookies set by Decision Technologies Limited (such as trk, sid or c-series cookies eg. c1 / c2 / c3) to record clicks and sales; these load only after you give explicit consent.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may not work correctly.
7. International transfers
Our site is served through Cloudflare’s global edge network. That means traffic may be terminated or cached in data centres outside the UK, and Cloudflare or other suppliers may process limited personal data in those locations. Where this happens we rely on either an adequacy decision (for example the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension) or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the 2021 EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Copies of these safeguards are available on request.
8. How long we keep your data
We retain personal data that can identify you for up to five years after your last interaction with us unless the law requires a different period. Google Analytics records are kept for 25 months. Aggregated or anonymised statistics, which can no longer identify you, may be stored indefinitely.
9. Security
Traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). Data held on our origin servers behind Cloudflare is encrypted at rest, and backups are replicated within the EU. Access to personal data is restricted to staff who need it, protected by multi-factor authentication and logged. Cloudflare holds ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and other security certifications.
10. Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you using purely automated means. We do build marketing and analytics audiences using cookies and pixels, but these activities do not independently determine the products or prices you are offered.
11. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your data, or to provide it in a portable format. If we rely on consent you may withdraw it at any time. To exercise any right please email privacy@broadbanduk.com. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
12. Children
Our services are intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s data.
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this Privacy & Cookies Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be announced on the site or by email where appropriate, and the version date at the top of this page will change.
